Toyin Sokefun-Bello, popularly known as TY Bello, is a top-rated Nigerian singer, songwriter, and photographer. She began her singing career in her university days and even joined a gospel band, KUSH which no longer exists.
Bello had a passion for singing and continued even though her gospel band was no longer in existence. She has sung many hit singles.
Biography
TY Bello was born in Ogun State on the 14th of January, 1978. Her father, Remi Sokefun who is now late, passed on his talent to his daughter. He was a well-known TV producer.
She went to the University of Lagos where she bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Not satisfied with just a degree, TY Bello went for another course in Journalism and after that, another in photography.
Even after getting her desired degrees, She still had a passion for music. In her university days, She was a member of a gospel band named KUSH (Kinetically Ushering Salvation into Hearts and Homes) which was later disbanded for reasons best known to them.
Career
After her gospel band was disbanded, TY Bello went into photography. She worked in different areas which included documentaries and portraits. She gained recognition in Nigeria and even worked as an official photographer for former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, during his reign.
She also worked for ThisDay Magazine as a fashion photographer and also with many top-rated celebrities. In 2016, people began singing her praises when She discovered a street hawker, Olajumoke Orisaguna, and turned her into an outstanding model. Olajumoke was a bread seller on the streets until She was located by TY Bello. Her life changed when she accidentally photobombed TY Bello’s photoshoot with a London-Based rapper, Tinie Tempah. That incident turned into a blessing for Olajumoke as TY Bello helped her launch her career and She was able to get modeling contracts from brands.
At a young age, TY Bello was in love with music. She was a member of a group that composed songs for her church. Her disbanded music group had the likes of Lara George, Dapo Torimiro, and Emem Emma. The group, KUSH, released a hit song ‘Let’s Live Together, in the 2000s before going their separate ways.
TY Bello decided to continue in the path of music and released her debut album, Greenland which made waves in the music industry in the year 2008. The album was filled with songs of love, peace, and unity for Nigerians. It brought hope to many at that time.
TY Bello has won several awards during her music career. Her song titled ‘Greenland’, won the Nigerian Music Award and also a Sound City Award.
In 2017, She won the Most Creative Personality of the Year at the SRAF Awards.
Husband, Marriage, and Family
TY Bello is happily married to Kashetu Bello. They tied the knot in 2009 and have been living happily since then. Unlike so many celebrity marriages, She has not been called out on Social media regarding any issues in her marriage. Kashetu Bello welcomed a set of twin boys with his wife on October 10, 2014.
They waited for five years before finally, their prayers were answered. After childbirth, TY Bello was inspired to release her album, The Morning Songbook. Her twin boys, Christian and Christopher are now 8 years old.
