Childhood and Education

Elizabeth Olusola Sobowale is Sobowale’s full name. The veteran actress was born in Ondo State on December 26, 1963, to Joseph and Esther Olagookun. Her father was an administrator, and her mother was a headmistress. In March of 2022, she turned 58 years.

She attended elementary and secondary school in Ondo State. She first attended a college for teachers before enrolling at the University of Ibadan to study music. She changed her major to Theatre Arts and earned a Bachelor’s degree in it because she desired acting and was passionate about it.

Career

Sola Sobowale entered the film industry with the assistance of her brother-in-law, Tunji Oyelana. He also assisted her in gaining admission to the college she desired. According to reports, Sobowale’s parents were initially opposed to her becoming an actress. However, they agreed after her brother-in-law spent considerable time convincing them that acting would not lead to prostitution.

Sobowale’s first role was in “Suara the Tailor,” a 1980s sitcom. Oyelana also played the lead role. The NTA Ibadan program was a huge hit with viewers. This was Sobowale’s first major opportunity.

Her performance in Suara the Tailor led to roles in some other television series, including The Village Headmaster, Mirror in the Sun, Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again, etc.

In 1992, she joined the popular Yoruba theater troupe Awada Kerikeri, led by Adebayo Salami, also known as Oga Bello. She also portrayed Mrs. Ijeoma in the 1998 blockbuster film Diamond Ring.

But Sobowale’s big break came in 2001 when she portrayed Toyin Tomato in the popular Super Story television series Oh Father, Oh Daughter. She gained notoriety because of how well she portrayed the role. Many fans still refer to her as “Toyin Tomato”

She took a break from acting and moved with her family to the United Kingdom. She stated that she took a break to assist her children with their schoolwork.

In 2016, Sobowale made a triumphant return to acting with The Wedding Party, which broke numerous box office records. She also appeared in the sequel The Wedding Party 2, which was not as successful. In the 2018 hit film King of Boys, in which she portrayed the no-nonsense Alhaja Eniola Salami, she won many people’s hearts.

Family

Sola Sobowale’s life outside of acting is rich. She is wed and the mother of five children. Sola is married to Oludotun Sobowale, who was the former corporate executive director of EKO Hospital.

Two of the couple’s five children are twins. The script for the film Nectar was co-written by the twins. The actress quit her film and television career to spend more time with her family. She stated that she took a break to provide a quality education for her five children. Currently, the Sobowale family resides in Great Britain.
