Chidinma Ekile is a Nigerian musician, songwriter, and actress. She was born on the 2nd of May, 1991 in Ketu, Kosofe, Lagos State. Chidinma hails from Imo state. She is the sixth out of seven children her parents had.
Biography
Chidinma Ekile was born to Igbo-tribe parents, her mother’s name is Martha Ekile and her father’s name is Hillary Ekile. She grew up with a father who believes in discipline and this help her to begin her music career at an early age. When Chidinma was 10 years old, she joined her church’s choir.
Chidinma originally refused her admission to the University of Lagos because of her participation in Project Fame West Africa. In discussion with YNaija, Chidinma said she has always taken school seriously, and her determination to register at Unilag was certain. She also said singing wasn’t always on her plan but agreed on trying after winning the music competition.
Chidinma Ekile’s primary and secondary school was in Ketu before their relocation to Ikorodu. She attained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Lagos, although she wished to study Mass Communication. She was part of the eight thousand competitors that year to showcase their talents.
Thereafter, Chidinma Ekile joined 17 other competitors in the Fame Academy round. For Ten weeks, musical specialists, voice trainers, emotional speakers, established singers, and music business service providers tutored her and the other competitors. Also, competitors were educated about choreography and various rehearsal exercises.
Chidinma was declared the competition’s champion on 26 September 2010. Chidinma Ekile won many prizes, including 2.5 million Naira, a 2011 Toyota RAV4, and a production contract. In May 2013, she accepted an endorsement contract with MTN Nigeria.
True to her words, Chidinma Ekile transitioned into the Gospel Music Industry after endorsing Eezee Conceptz, a gospel producing agency. She began to work on her eponymous debut studio album Chidinma after broadcasting a collective project with another season 3 finalist. The album was planned for release in the fourth quarter of 2011. She talked about the album briefly and explained that she put a lot of strength into it.
Chidinma began her acting profession by starring in a 2017 movie titled The Bridge, directed by Kunle Afolayan. After a very long absence from the music industry, Chidinma Ekile reappeared again in May 2021, but this period to proclaim her 30th birthday, posting photos of herself on Instagram.
Chidinma Ekele laments about spending over 9 years singing a worldly song, documenting that her immediate change to gospel music was fueled by a new encounter with God and her knowledge of her Christian faith. To mark her entrance into the Nigerian gospel music scene, Chidinma released her debut gospel single tagged ‘Jehovah Over Do‘ on Sunday, May 2, 2021. The New Season EP comprises 6 tracks, and a bonus making 7 tracks in total, which was released on August 23, 2021.
