Facebook to open office in Lagos by 2021

Facebook Inc. has announced that it plans to open a Nigerian office in Lagos which will be its second office in Africa, the first is in South Africa. Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg visited Nigeria four years ago in August 2016.

Facebook plans to hire teams of engineers, sales executives and other experts to drive growth from the Nigerian office which is expected to become operational by the second half of 2021.

According to Ime Archibong who is the Head of New Product Experimentation at Facebook, one of the core reasons for opening a Nigerian office is the availability of tech talent in the country.

The Lagos team will be in charge of building Facebook products for the African market. This move will definitely contribute to the growth of the fast growing African tech industry especially in Nigeria.
